Client: Vans

Challenge:
Vans needs an experiential campaign to help restore the 'cool factor' and authenticity of the Vans brand among the global, diverse youth/skate culture.

Insight:
Black and Brown youth are disproportionately arrested while skating/bombing hills at Dolores Park, San Francisco.

Idea: 1-800-ASK-VANS

Role:  Creative/Copy

Vans is helping young skaters who face disproportionate arrests during the Dolores Hill Bomb—a pivotal annual skate festival in San Francsico. One month before the event, every pair of Vans sold in the SF Bay Area will include a custom shoe box featuring the 1-800-ASK-VANS hotline, offering skaters legal support and bail assistance on the event day.

Furthermore, Vans is enhancing safety with a buffer zone made from recycled materials for safer landings, and professional skate crew GX1000 will offer lessons to new skaters on a nearby street. Lawyers will be readily available both on-site and at local police stations to ensure skaters’ rights are respected.
